Become a better UX designer through code

We can no longer predict how people are accessing our websites now, let alone in a few years’ time. The web is an inherently fluid, flexible and unpredictable medium. Rather than seeing this unpredictability as a problem, we should embrace it. To design effectively for the web as a medium, you need to understand it better.

Therefore, in this hands-on workshop we will be leveling up your HTML & CSS skills to learn how you can create responsive prototypes and re-usable pattern libraries for your web projects. We’ll show you how to approach design challenges through rapidly coding responsive interfaces and prototypes that you can begin testing your customers and clients immediately. We’ll explore how to create layouts that flow beautifully on screens both tiny and large and how to design responsive grids and your breakpoints from the content-out. Through practical examples we’ll discuss the benefits of developing responsive pattern libraries including when and how to use them. During the workshop we’ll use CodePen to easily create, save and share the code you’ll be creating.

What you’ll learn:

  • How coding can be an important facet of any UX professionals toolbox
  • Practical HTML / CSS skills that you can apply to your projects
  • Approaching responsive design from the content-out
  • What is a pattern library and why, when and how to use one
  • The pros and cons of different types of patterns
